Schaum Torte

Today I am sharing an absolutely delicious dessert, SCHAUM TORTE! A perfect dessert for any occasion.

Over Christmas, I was introduced to Schaum Torte by my mother-in-law. I also learned that it is a very loved dessert on my husband’s side of the family. But as for me, I had never heard of Schaum Torte until Christmas. When I first saw the Schum Tortes I had no idea what to expect. They looked and felt hard on the outside, but were also very fragile.  However, they were delicious and I love them!

It’s hard to describe what Schaum Torte is to someone that has never had them or had a meringue before. The best way I can describe it is, it has a crunch on the outside, & the inside is light, fluffy & creamy. Nothing like anything I’ve ever eaten before. Then when you add the whipped cream and berries & it just blends so deliciously together!

So let’s learn to make them! Did I mention it only takes 4 ingredients?!

Here’s what you need:

Scroll all the way down for fast Directions

6 Egg Whites

1/2 Tsp Cream of Tatar

1 1/2 Cups of Sugar

1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract

Topping:

Whipped Cream

Strawberries

Blueberries

Directions:

Makes 9 (large) Schaum Tortes

Preheat your oven to 275° & get your baking sheet out – cover it with parchment paper.

First, beat your 6 eggs whites, cream of tartar & vanilla extract until it becomes foamy. (I definitely recommend using a mixer, instead of hand mixing). It should get foamy fairly fast if you put your mixer on full speed.

If you don’t want to spend a ton on a mixer I HIGHLY suggest this hand mixer you can find here, its affordable & I use it more than my kitchen aid honestly.

Next, you want to add your sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, allowing each tablespoon to fully get mixed in. You will notice the mix start to turn white and get thicker & thicker.

You will need to let it mix for quite awhile on high speed, this is why I recommend using a mixer. Once you start to see stiff peaks forming then your batter is ready. The best way to tell is by lifting up the mixer whisk and the mix is so thick or “stiff” that it doesn’t drip. You can also hand mix it and you should see the peaks form.

Now, you need to form the Schaum Tortes. I just use a spoon and scoop out however much I want and drop it onto the parchment paper. Then you will use your spoon to form them into circles building up on the sides. They don’t have to be perfect.

Next, comes the waiting & baking! Place your Tortes into the oven and bake for 1 hour & then after that one hour is up, turn off your oven and leave them in the oven for another Hour and a half (1.5 hours).

Make sure you keep the oven door shut! This is always hard for me because I want to keep looking at them.  But this will mess with the baking process! So keep the door shut.

Once the hour & a half is up- take your Schaum Tortes out of the oven and place somewhere to finish cooling.

While they are cooling slice your strawberries & get your whipped cream and blueberries out!

Place all your toppings on & Enjoy your Schaum Torte!!!

Usually, I just top it with Strawberries & Whipped Cream but I added Blueberries (Red, White, & Blue!!). For Memorial day & July Fouth!! Perfect dessert for both celebrations! & I bet your friends will be impressed if you make this dessert!

Fast Instructions:

You need:

6 Egg Whites

1/2 Tsp Cream of Tatar

1 1/2 Cups of Sugar

1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract

Topping:

Whipped Cream

Strawberries

Blueberries

Directions:

Step One: Preheat oven to 275° & get your baking sheet out- covered with parchment paper

Step Two: First beat your eggs whites, cream of tartar & vanilla extract until it becomes foamy.

Step Three: Next, add your sugar one tablespoon at a time.

Step Four: Beat the batter until you see stiff peaks form – this will take some time so let it mix on high for awhile.

Once you notice the stiff peaks & that your batter is very thick it’s time to place it onto the parchment paper.

Step Five: Using a spoon drop the batter onto the parchment paper and form them individually into circles (see photos above).

Step Six: Bake for 1 hour & then turn off the oven and bake for another 1.5 hours with the oven door shut.

Step Seven: Once they are done baking, place them somewhere to cool while you slice your strawberries & get your whipped cream & blueberries ready.

Step Eight: Place on all your toppings on & enjoy!!

This is the perfect dessert for Memorial Day or July Fourth ( Red, White & Blue!)
