Seven months ago I was very pregnant, uncomfortable, and nauseous. I’m sure many of you can relate. I also bet you’ve heard at least one person tell you to relax while you’re pregnant?
I now understand why everyone that has kids told me to relax. BUT, It’s hard to relax when you are bringing your first baby into the world. Luckily, I’m going to share some ways you CAN & should relax.
During my 9 months of being pregnant, I had about 2 months (maybe) with no nausea, then you add anemia into the mix near the end, and I just didn’t feel good. But there are things you can do, and a lot of these things also helped to relieve anxiety and stress.
Pregnant OR not, anyone can use these things to relax, I still do some of the things listed below!
Ways To Relax While Pregnant
P.S these ideas are geared more towards first-time moms, as they typically have more “me” time to do these activities.
Adult coloring books
I didn’t even know there was such a thing until I was wondering around TJ-MAXX one day. Coloring helps take your mind off things like not feeling well & it worked for me! I now have multiple adult coloring books & still use them from time to time.
Knitting was my favorite thing to do while I was pregnant. I had always wanted to knit but being pregnant gave me a reason – I needed a baby blanket! Lucky me, my awesome mother-in-law sent me ALL the tools & yarn I needed!
Knitting seems hard at first, but once you start it gets easy. I learned to knit from the book Knitting Essentials Handy Guild To All The Basics. If you want a step by step to create the perfect & adorable blanket check out Knit Baby Afghan which you can find here. That’s where I got the steps to make mine. Without these two books, I would have been clueless.
Knitting is the perfect thing to do- you’re creating something for your baby, and you are relaxing at the same time! It doesn’t matter if your blanket comes out with a few imperfections!
I worked on my blanket for probably two months on my free time. You can definitely make it faster, but I didn’t work on it during the days until I stopped working.

You can do this at home or go to the spa. I was fortunate enough to have a husband who voluntarily painted my toes every two weeks.
I’ve always loved getting my nails done, it’s relaxing even when you aren’t pregnant. Plus who doesn’t like cute nails? So take at least one day to go get pampered!
See A Movie
This is the best thing to do if you want to get out of the house. I seriously miss being able to go to the movies & wish my husband and I would have started movie dates earlier on in my pregnancy!
We found this amazing movie theater with big recliner seats and a concession stand with the best food & snacks. Could this be any more perfect for pregnant women? Once we discovered this, we went almost every weekend!
So do yourself a favor & take a date night to the movie theater & indulge in all the snacks! It’s something my husband & I both miss doing together.
Do Nothing & Sleep
Pick a day and just sit on the couch and do nothing. Order take out for dinner and watch shows all day, read, or knit! I specifically remember the day my husband and I woke up, started watching a show in bed and stayed there all day!! We just brought snacks upstairs & did nothing!
Don’t forget to take naps!
Lastly, take a babymoon! A babymoon is like a honeymoon but before you have a baby. I didn’t know this was a common thing people did before having babies but it is!
We were already planning a vacation before I knew I was pregnant, so our vacation just happened to turn into a babymoon. But I highly suggest you do take some time off, just for you & your partner. Whether that’s a weekend at a hotel, or a few nights at home just hanging out. Make time for a babymoon!

So, remember that when you are pregnant its ok to be lazy sometimes because you probably won’t get to truly relax for a long time!
